| Preschool Program
Southminster School was founded in 1990 by Southminster
Presbyterian Church as the Early Learning Center. Our preschool program
now educates over 200 children from 18 months to 4 years old. (Children
enrolled in the Southminster School Pre-K classes are considered part
of the elementary program.) Our dedicated teaching staff has an average
of 5 years teaching and training. Southminster School has
requried that each teacher obtain a minimum of a Child Development
Associates Degree (CDA). Each teacher has a maximum of two years
to complete the program. Eleven of our twelve teachers hold this
important certification. In addition, all teachers attend the
Presbyterian Weekdays Ministries Conference and 15 hours of training in
August prior to the beginning of the school year. Each teacher is
also trained in CPR/First Aid, and AED through the American Red Cross.
Classes are held from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with extended care
available. Our program seizes upon a child's natural curiosity and
interests to build a strong educational foundation in a fun, positive,
age-appropriate, Christian environment. The students are provided with
opportunities for multi-sensory enrichment, addressing their different
abilities and learning styles. Low student-to-teacher ratios ensure a
safe and nurturing environment. The children attend Music and Movement
classes daily, Chapel bi-weekly, utilize classroom computers, and
visit the school library bi-weekly or monthly, depending on age.
On-campus field trips and after-school activities further enrich their
learning experience.
