Elementary School

Southminster School's elementary program began in 1999 with an initial Kindergarten class.  The school has now expanded through Fifth grade and also includes our Pre-Kindergarten classes and two Bridging classes.  Our low student-to-teacher ratio, coupled with teacher expertise, further students' successes in our challenging, multi-sensory program.

Elementary Teachers
Southminster School requires that each elementary teacher complete teacher training and hold a teaching certificate.  In the 2008-2009 school year, two of our elementary teachers also have Masters Degrees in specialty areas.  Several of our teachers are seeking advanced degrees.  Each teacher meets the required CEUs for their teaching certificate as well as the 15 hours of training prior to the beginning of the school year.  Teachers are trained in CPR/First Aid, and AED through the American Red Cross.  The teachers have various years of teaching experience from first year teachers to those with more than 25 years of experience.  Each teacher is a Christian who is committed to developing students mind, spirit, and body.

Elementary Outclass Teachers
These teachers each specialize in the area that they teach in addition to having general teaching experience.  The outclass teachers' backgrounds include Computers, Spanish, Music, Library/Media Specialist, and Physical Education.  Each of the teachers has more than 10 years of teaching experience.  These individuals work hand in hand with the clasroom teachers to combine their specialities with the specific needs of the classroom.
